Originally from Brittany, Gwendal Giguelay studied music in Rennes before attending the CNSMD in Lyon then in Paris where he obtained his master's degree in piano. He also studied with Jean-Claude Pennetier and the Ysaÿe Quartet.
Gwendal has a soloist career in France and abroad and performs in various events and festivals. He won the Scaramuzza prize at the Les Corts international competition in Barcelona in 2008, and his concerts are regularly broadcast. He is also passionate about chamber music, and received the "Musicians between war and peace" prize from the Ravel Academy in 2010. He performs with many artists and ensembles, such as Le Balcon. In 2009, he founded the Norma Trio with which he regularly gives concerts, notably in the La Roque-d'Anthéron piano festival (2013).
Gwendal nurtures a special bond with the world of dance for many years and collaborates with companies such as the Opéra National de Paris and the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater. He is also a singing master, and collaborates with many opera singers. Holder of the Teaching Diploma of the CNSMD, Gwendal Giguelay teaches piano and chamber music at the Montreuil CRD and the Conservatoire du XVIIè arrondissement in Paris. He is also a trainer at the CND inPantin and Lille's ESMD.
Finally, Gwendal gives himself to musical improvisation - which he studied with Jean-François Zygel - and particularly indulges himself in musical accompaniment of silent cinema. He also appeared in Philippe Béziat's film Noces (2011).
